The Worst and The Best Eye Creams

Go into any corner drug store and you are likely to find shelf after shelf of eye creams. There are creams for circles, creams for bags, creams for firming, and creams for wrinkles. You are bound to stand there and wonder “what are the best eye creams?”

Eye Cream vs. Eye Gel

The first thing to recognize is that eye creams come in a variety of formulas. There are actual eye creams and there are eye gels. Creams are for those with dry skin and gels are generally for women with oilier skin.

There are eye creams that are formulated to perform specific tasks, but, remember, the best eye creams are the ones that get used. Even with the best of intentions, if you aren’t going to use the cream, don’t buy it. But, also remember, every woman needs a good eye cream.

Can You Use Petroleum Jelly?

Eye creams and gels are designed primarily to prevent wrinkles. My grandmother claimed that the best eye cream was a dab of petroleum jelly. However, I just can’t bring myself to put that stuff under my eyes.

Since most of us can’t follow grandma’s advice, we head to the store to pick out an eye cream. Maybe you want to try something a celebrity recommended on television. Maybe you read a review that interested you. And maybe you read an article or saw an ad in a magazine for a top rated eye cream that interests you. My advice is to try the creams one at a time.

Give It Time to Work

It takes a few days to a few weeks to really see any effects from an eye cream. If you are purchasing an eye cream for the first time, buy the smallest size and use it up before you judge it. I know the smallest size is not the most economical, but it’s not economical to have a drawer full of products either.

After you’ve finished the eye cream, decide if you want to continue using it or whether you’d rather try another one. Some women switch creams after each one is finished because they swear that they see greater benefits if they do this. And still other women spend their entire lives, and a significant amount of their hard-earned cash investigating the best eye creams.

So, as you are standing there in the eye cream aisle at the drugstore, which eye cream do you buy? I recommend a day eye cream and a night eye cream. The reason for this is that you can’t always use heavier creams during the day because your makeup will slide off, but you need to use a heavier cream at night so that your eyes can benefit from the best treatment.

In general, you should choose a gel based cream for daytime and a creamier formula to apply before bedtime. The gel-based formulas are more compatible with makeup. However, if you have really dry skin, you will want to stay away from gels and use creamier formulas whenever possible.
