How Your Make Up Artist Resume Can Get the Best Jobs
But what if you are just a novice who is starting out? Are there some tricks and things to watch out for to ensure better success at being hired by a make up artist agency? The answer, of course, is always yes.
Content over Layout
Your make up artist resume should always focus on the content first rather than the style. By content, we mean not just your pertinent personal information-related text such as name, address, contact numbers, etc.
You also need to be organized in the way you list down the different kinds of jobs that you were able to take part in. For example, after your personal contact details, education information and summary of make up artist licenses and certifications, have a huge block of space dedicated to different avenues of media work.
Categorize Your Work
For example, you can have categories for Runway, Commercial Print, Commercial TV and Videos. Here you will list down all the jobs you did and what year you participated in. Try to be as detailed as possible without crowding the space too much.
The next section of your make up artist resume should be of the ‘name droppable’ kind. Meaning, you will need to list down all the photographers, celebrities, fashion designers and ad agencies that specifically chose to work with you and have you work for them. You might want to call this list as your Representative Subjects list because these are the famous people in the industry who can vouch for your professionalism.
The following section would then be the list of publications (usually magazines and glossies)that have hired your services. This is different from Commercial Print, because while Commercial Print includes different jobs that might not be of the fashion and beauty kind (like doing the makeup of the model of the latest SUV) magazines and glossies are all about serious fashion, beauty, glamour and style – where the critical eye on what you were able to swipe on the faces of such models will be sure to assess your work as a make up artist.
Extra Effort Counts for a Make Up Artist Resume
If you want to become a make up artist who is known to exert a little more effort, go the extra mile by enclosing a CD of your set cards with your resume. The great thing about this is since your images are on a disc, it can easily be passed on from one professional contact to another in a very efficient manner compared to mailing your entire portfolio.
A lot of make up artists also come up with their own websites so the agencies can just take a look at it on their own time. And the good thing about this is that you will never know who else might be looking at your work – a Hollywood star herself, perhaps?
